The 2015 edition of CanoeSport is out

The paddling season is about to get underway and there are lots of activities planned for 2015. Check out the latest edition of CanoeSport for information about what is going on in the ACA Atlantic Division.

Some our upcoming events include the May 9th partnership with Riverkeeper Sweep annual clean-up (see page 9 for details on signing up).

Also on page 9 is a new workshop on Catching Fire given by North Brooklyn Boathouse on May 2nd at Camp Sebago.

The Atlantic Division and our Paddle America Clubs have scheduled some great training and events. There are Crazy Scupper races at the Camp at Lake Sebago and fun for all.

City of Water Day Festival

Mark your calendars for the City of Water Day Festival on July 12, 2014 — a free, day-long event that features on-the-water fun, free boat tours, a Waterfront Activity Fair with many children’s projects, great food and music, and much more!

The purpose of City of Water Day, hosted by the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance (waterfrontalliance.org), is to focus wide-scale public attention on the potential of the New York-New Jersey Harbor. More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the festival this year at its two main locations — Governors Island and Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken, NJ — and thousands more will visit City of Water Day “In Your Neighborhood” festivities at waterfront venues all around the metropolitan region. Hudson River Greenland Festival

Save the Date

The 8th Hudson River Greenland Festival will be held Thursday, June 26th through Sunday, June 29th at Croton Point Park.

 Share in our on-water and off-water programs for adults, as well as youths, ages 8 and up. Instruction in strokes, rolls and rescues.

 Registration opens April 1st. See our website www.hrgf.org/‎ for information.

 Our guests this year include Jenna Padilla (Maligiaq’s sister) and Unnungulak, Qaanat Katuffiat Secretary, and festival regular Dubside. Don Beale of Beale Paddles, Oregon, will hold a paddle carving class Friday.

Farmington Slalom

Description: Two Day Whitewater Slalom Race

Race Description: The Farmington Slalom is the oldest operating whitewater slalom in the United States. The Brandywine Slalom was an older event but is no longer operating. The Farmington Slalom has been held on the same site for more than fifty years, although it was held in April in it’s formative years. For the past twenty years it has been held on the weekend after Columbus Day weekend at the height of the “Fall Colors” season.

Many thanks to the management at Tolland State Forest for providing the water release that makes the race possible. The race site is at the entrance to Tolland State Forest just off Route 8, mile marker 7, just South of Otis, MA, and just North of the Connecticut state line, on the Farmington River. The river is mild class 2 at the race site. This race is the final New England Slalom Series race of the season and will be run as a two day race with first runs Saturday afternoon and second runs on Sunday.

A gathering of Human Powered boaters on Jamaica Bay.  Jamaica Bay is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and encompasses over 16,000 acres of islands, salt marshes, beaches, duck marshes and is  You can explore the bay on your own or join one of the many guided trip into the Bay escorted by a Sebago member. There will be specific destinations where you can land and hear information about the harbor estuary system from our partner organizations. Relax on our grounds and enjoy the day, the choice is yours.
